ABOUT THE HOSTS
Margot Broom
Known as a teacher’s teacher, Margot is celebrated for her wisdom, clarity, and grace. With over 1,000 hours of training in asana, philosophy, Ayurveda, Reiki, Vinyasa, and Iyengar, she brings depth, precision, and heart to every class. Her teaching helps practitioners of all levels feel truly welcomed, while making even the most intricate aspects of yoga accessible, empowering, and deeply relevant.
Her journey began in early adolescence when she was first introduced to yoga, sparking a lifelong path of self-study rooted in both spiritual philosophy and the rhythms of modern life. By 22, she completed her first teacher training, stepping fully into a vocation that has grown steadily over two decades.
Out of both loss and inspiration, Margot founded Breathing Room—originally a small studio tucked in the back of an antique shop in New Haven. Fueled by vision and community, it grew into a beloved hub for practice and transformation. Now located on Crown Street in downtown New Haven, Breathing Room proudly celebrates its 17th year in 2025.
Margot’s classes are soulful, challenging, and rooted in the full experience—philosophy, precise sequencing, good music, and an open invitation to be wholly yourself. Her teaching draws deeply from lived experience, offering a space where students grow with grace, grit, and authenticity.
Beyond the studio, Margot serves as Chair of the Board for the Town Green Special Service District of New Haven, where she actively advocates for public art, safety, social justice, and community connection.
Tobie Schuerfeld
Tobie was introduced to yoga in her early twenties but didn't start a dedicated practice until her 29th birthday when her mother brought her to Kripalu Center in the Berkshires. Since then she has completed her 200hr certification in an Iyengar influenced style of yoga. She has learned from teachers such as Rodney Yee, Seane Corn, Rolf Gates, Baron Baptiste and Stephen Cope.
Tobie teaches a vinyasa style of yoga with an attention to form and alignment. She believes that form and alignment are the keys to freedom in the body and freedom in the breath. Being a massage therapist for the last 10 years and receiving her masters in clinical nutrition two years ago, Tobie has a well rounded understanding of the body.
Her classes are challenging and fun while giving the students an awareness that they are ultimately their own teacher and can guide their practice to fit their needs.
