Throughout my teaching career I have had moments in class where I feel compelled to tell students “you are doing a good job”. Not just in physical practice but in life. I honestly feel like every now and then we as humans just really need to hear it.

However, I had this realization the other day that sometimes in life we are doing our best to make it through what is unfolding in our current situation. Maybe it doesn't feel good, or we honestly don't feel we are doing a good job, and that is ok.

Someone very dear in my life recently lost a loved one. I see them trying to come back to themselves and struggling with the grief of loss and adjustment to their new reality. When this happened for them I found myself saying “You’re doing it buddy. You are doing it” Not “you are doing a good “, job because, sometimes when you are doing the real hard work of life it doesn't feel like a ‘good job’, it just feels like surviving. The work we are doing does not always have to be a good job for us to be grateful for the work and be proud of ourselves for doing it.

This thought has been coming to me a lot this month as we started the year off with covid in the house and as a family we prepare for a major surgery for my beloved hubby. None of it really feels good but we are doing it, we are making it through and becoming stronger every day and step. I’m doing it; i’m feed the kiddos and keeping them hydrated. I’m doing it; teaching my classes and loving on my community. I’m doing it; doing what I can to be healthy and nourish myself. I may not be doing what i would always consider a “good job” but I am doing it and I am proud of myself for it.And doing it brings be closer to the awareness needed to move through and learn from this moment.

With all that is happening in the world right now, all that you have on your plate, Please give yourself some grace and know…

You are doing it

And the more you do it, the stronger you are becoming.
